About Deborah Wren Ceramics

I rediscovered my love of working with clay seven years ago when my son left for university and I decided to take a few hours away each week from running my business for some ‘creative time’. Having dabbled with ceramics in my 20’s I found that I loved being back in the studio and reconnecting with the clay.

Having experimented with lots of various projects and forms (thank you Teresa at Courtyard Arts in Hertford!) I found that I was always coming back to creating interpretations of those glorious Mediterranean vegetables that filled the weekly markets on our wonderful holidays in France when the children were little.

In 2021 I moved to East Sussex into a lovely cottage near Rye. Rye and the surrounding villages are an absolute cornucopia of the creative senses - full of galleries and wonderful little shops hidden away down back streets just waiting to be discovered. So I realised that if I was ever going to take the plunge it would be now.

My first collection was a range of ceramic fruit and vegetables inspired by the flavours and colours of the Mediterranean .

My second collection was seashore themed wall art handcrafted from white porcelain. Each delicate porcelain ceramic shell is handmade and painted so the finished wall art is totally unique and a one off. The inspiration for my wall art comes from the beach and sea near my home in Rye in East Sussex. The colours of the sea which can change by the day and even the hour are reflected in the colours which I select to decorate the porcelain shells.

My latest collection develops my range of ceramic vegetables into a creation of ceramic wall art which enables me to focus on the intricacies of each vegetable and the amazing colour permutations.
